Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

This homemade hot chocolate is rich, sweet, and perfect for those cold winter nights with your family. The best part is that it's super easy and is great to get the kids involved in the kitchen.

I stumbled across tons of these recipes on Pinterest so I decided to mix my own variation. This recipe is tried, true, and kid approved! Even my 11-year-old can make it so it's definitely one anyone can make.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted

  • 1 cup Powdered confectioners' sugar, sifted

  • 1/4 cup French Vanilla Creamer

  • 1 cup Powdered Milk (optional)

Step 1: Make the Mix

  1. Whisk together all ingredients in a large bowl. Note - powdered milk may be omitted if you plan to make your hot cocoa with warm milk instead of water.

  2. Pour all ingredients into an airtight container like a mason jar.

Step 2: Make the Cocoa

  1. Add 2-3 tablespoons of the mix into a heat-proof mug.

  2. Stir in 1 cup of warm water or milk (if you omitted the powdered milk). Stir until all of the mix is dissolved.

  3. Top with your favorite toppings and serve hot.

I am not a coffee drinker, but I am a huge fan of really good hot chocolate topped off with a whole lot of homemade whipped cream. Give this mix recipe a try - the batch usually lasts us through most of the holiday season depending on how often you make it. It also is a perfect gift for teachers and friends. I usually put 2-3 servings worth into clear piping bags topped off with chocolate morsels and marshmallows. Affix a nice Christmas ribbon and a tag with the instructions for how to make a cup and voila, an instant and thoughtful Christmas gift treat that costs pennies per serving!
